What have we been up to this term?

We have a brand new caterpillar! His name is Professor Dumbledore. Harry Potter is in a chrysalis and we hope he will be a butterfly soon!

We love having Miss Park as a teacher because she’s really nice (and she didn't force us to say that!)

Here’s a wee bit about what we are learning in class…

Art – We are learning about painting and being neat with our work. We are also learning about blending and shading. We have done trees in watercolours, butterflies and swirls.

Reading – We are learning to read stories about all kinds of things. We are learning to be responsible while we do our rotations. We are also learning about settings and characters and retelling what’s happened in a story.   

Maths – We are learning basic facts. We are learning our rotations and how to make good choices. We are learning how to expand big numbers and place value.

Handwriting – We are learning how to form different letters and numbers, and how to write sentences neatly. We are practicing how to keep everything on the line. We are learning to be very neat. It’s hard work sometimes!

Spelling – We are using the SmartWords programme to learn how to use patterns to spell lots of words.

Writing – We are learning to use dictionaries and follow the Writing Process. We are working hard at keeping our writing neat and on the line. We are learning about recounts and poems. We are great at writing!

Fire Safety – We are learning how to stay calm in a fire, how to exit a building and why smoke alarms are important. We are working on understanding how fires start and how to keep safe.

Golden Time – We have lots of fun outside and we get to make choices about what we do. We earn Golden Time by doing good things all week!

Library – We are learning to read in our heads and pick books that are a good fit. We are learning about how to be quiet and sensible in the Library.

Fitness – We are learning to not scream when we play games. We are learning to move fast and get healthier and fitter!

News – We are learning to share what’s important to us and to make good choices about what we bring. We are learning to listen respectfully when someone is talking.

Mihi – We are learning to say our mihi to improve our understanding of Te Reo Maori and share with our families and class.
