The 10 Things We Should Say More Often

We have hit the ground running this term! We have launched straight into speeches and we are basing our first speech off the video "20 Things We Should Say More Often" by the Kid President. In case you haven't seen the Kid President here he is;

We were so inspired by his awesome style and hilarious speech that we decided to come up with our own list. Each Room 10 kid is writing their own speech but as a whole class we came up with the things we should all say more often.

1. Please.
2. You're nice.
3. How're you feeling today?
4. I love you!
5. Thank you.
6. Do you want to play with me? (Miss Park loves this one! She loves it when we play together nicely!)
7. Sorry.
8. You're a great friend.
9. Excuse me.
10. Do you want to build a snowman?

All these things are great but they are only worth the effort if you really mean them. Don't ask someone to play if you're going to run away from them, that will just make them really sad. We hope you enjoyed our list!  To finish off this post we will leave you with an awesome song that you should sing more often.

Welcome Back to Term 3!

Welcome back Term 3! This year is just flying by – I hope you had time to relax and unwind during the holidays! I was lucky enough to attend a Maths Symposium in the second week of the holidays which has given me lots of ideas to try out with Room 10!

Art
We will be exploring collage this term. If you have some bits and pieces you think may be useful and you no longer need please feel free to send them along for use in this.

Duty
My duty day is Wednesday/Thursday so on Wednesday afternoons the class will be released from 2:50 p.m. They will be either left to play, colour or read in the classroom or send onto the playground if it is fine. You are welcome to collect them at this earlier time but they are not permitted to leave school grounds without their parent or guardian until the bell goes at 3 p.m.

Important dates
Ned Show: July 29th
Cheese Roll Making (PTA fundraiser): 6 p.m., July 31st, Hampstead School Hall
Book Fair: August 4th–8th
Ski Day: August 29th
End of Term: September 26th

Library
Our Library day is Wednesday, we have been pretty good at getting books returned on time but please remind your child to bring their library books on Wednesday too.

Performance
We are very lucky to have the Ned Show visiting on July 29th. This is a free show.

Religious Education
We are very lucky to have Mrs Coulter come for half an hour each Thursday morning for Religious Education. If you do not wish your child to participate in Religious Education please let me know. If your child has already opted out this will continue for this term. If you have any questions about this please feel free to ask.

Stationary
This is a great time to check your child’s stationary. Please make sure everything is named. Your child needs two sharp pencils, one rubber, one ruler, one glue stick and one pencil sharpener. Tissues are a very important part of our classroom and it is very much appreciated if you are able to send a box of tissues along for the class. We have a few boxes on reserve thanks to some kind donations last term, thank you for those!

Topics for Term 3
Reading – Instructions and Guided Reading
Writing – Speech Writing and Recounts
P.E. – Gymnastics and Run, Jump, Throw
Music – Reading Music and Playing Un-tuned Instruments
Art – Collage
Maths – Measurement (Capacity, Volume, Area and Perimeter) and Fractions

Topic – Wastebusters and Technology
Te Reo Māori – Classroom Objects, and Myths and Legends

Toys and electronics
Please do not allow your child to bring any toys or electronic devices (e.g. tablets) to school. We cannot take responsibility for the safety of these devices, and toys often cause arguments and confusion in the playground. Children have access to laptops and tablets at school.

Uniform
The Hampstead School uniform is compulsory and need to be kept clean and tidy. Please make sure everything your child wears is named. It makes it much easier for things to find their way back their owner (particularly jerseys!) Please make sure the shoes your child wears to school are black with no other colours. If in doubt feel free to come in and check.

As always, if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask.

Kind regards,
Stacey Park
