Lest We Forget

Today is the last day of term, which means Easter is nearly here! We have been kept busy doing out ANZAC and Easter activities, and finishing the term of course! ANZAC Day is very important to us and we have been very lucky to have Evan come and talk to us about his dad and aunt who both served in World War 2. We had a look at photographs and letters. We also got to see a helmet and gas mask from the war. We listened carefully because it was so interesting!

To remember ANZAC Day and everyone who served we made a poppy wreath for our ANZAC assembly. Miss Park showed us how to make poppies using petals that she cut out of red crepe paper. We started by laying four petals fanned out with the short ends touching. Then we pinched the short ends together to start making our flower shape. We added petals one at a time to the bunch and adjusted them to look like a poppy while we pinched the ends. Once we were happy with them we tied the ends off with string and a double knot.

Miss Park had cut out a big doughnut shape for our wreath and she painted it green while we made our poppies. When they were all finished and had their black middles painted in we glued them onto the wreath. Once they were all on we thought it looked pretty good!

Our wreath with just poppies on it.
We decided to add a banner to it too. Miss Park copied the Ode of Rememberance onto a banner and wrote Lest We Forget. Then we all signed it with our name and we all wrote "We will remember them" onto the banner too. We added the banner to the wreath and it looks awesome. We are so proud of our hard work and Miss Park is really proud of us too.

Check back again soon!

Love from Room 10 and Miss Park.
